Call for proposals 2022

call-for-proposals-novus-2022-banner-en

Novus is an initiative of Tecnológico de Monterrey supporting the development of innovative ideas in the training processes of our students. Our purpose is to stimulate research in educational innovation to strengthen the professional development of our faculty, improve their teaching practices, and construct the future of education. We are extremely proud of having seeded more than 900 educational innovation projects! To continue to support the positioning of the institution as the number 1 university in educational innovation, we present the Call for proposals 2022.

Important dates

  • February 28 to May 27, 2022 || Proposal reception timeframe.
  • January 2023 || Resource allocation.
  • June 2024 || Accounts closure

Participants

Any member of the Academic Community or Trainers at Tecnológico de Monterrey may participate, regardless of their type of contract. The minimum number of teachers to take part in the 2022 Call will be two. It is possible to participate in an unlimited number of proposals, but you can only participate in up to three projects (accepted proposals), including projects involving the 2020 or 2021 generations of students.

The project manager is in charge of the entire project and can have any type of hiring contract with the university. The Manager assumes the commitments of the Call on behalf of the whole team when beginning to participate. The Project Manager must teach at least one course or training unit during the project's development.

Responsibilities:

  • Share evidence of starting (the project boot).
  • Fill out the project log.
  • Maintain communication with Novus Coordination through the various available means.

If the Manager does not have a faculty contract, an administrator who does have one must be assigned to facilitate the procurement and exercise of resources throughout the year. The administrator must be attached to the same campus as the person in charge of the project and must teach at least one course or training unit during the project's development.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the project charge account item (PEP Element).
  • Generate the shopping carts.
  • Manage the On-Campus Intern agreements.
  • Maintain communication with the Novus Coordination through the various available means.

The rest of the participating team can have any type of contract. However, the institutional collaborators whose role is "additional groups or students" must implement the innovation in at least one course or training unit during the project's development.

There can be up to four collaborators, counting the project manager and the administrator. To promote intercampus collaboration in national projects, the Call allows more collaborators per the number of campuses, as follows:

  • 2 campuses →6 collaborators.
  • 3 or more campuses →9 collaborators.

All collaborators support the Manager to develop the project. The Novus Coordination may establish direct communication with any collaborators when required.

Collaborators not from Tecnológico de Monterrey can be team members, but they cannot be managers or administrators of a Novus project. The Project Manager, on behalf of the external collaborator, must indicate the external collaborator's expected role in the proposal form.

Teams that integrate people attached to one of the universities within the best 200 institutions classified in QS Top University Rankings or workers of companies ranked in Forbes Global 2000 World's Largest Public Companies have an advantage in the event of a tie when the proposal is evaluated.

IMPORTANT: Integrating external collaborators can mean intellectual property or data privacy risks. For this reason, if the proposal is accepted, the Manager must request through Myspace Legal Services a collaboration agreement for each external collaborator participating in the project and provide it to Operational Coordination in the first regular academic period.

All team members must individually confirm their participation and accept the responsibilities associated with the project. If, due to force majeure, the Project Manager cannot continue with his or her duties, the team members will appoint an alternate manager who will assume the role as soon as the Coordination is notified by email. If an alternate is not specified, the project will be canceled. The team will then be responsible for delivering a progress-and-expenses report by the closing date within a period not exceeding 30 calendar days.

Any issue related to breaches of commitments by the team members will be reviewed with the corresponding areas of Talent and Experience.

Proposals

To participate in this Call, the participant must fill out the proposal form, available on the portal novustec.mx. This Call will accept proposals that emphasize learning and seek to solve a problem in the teaching-learning process or concern leadership formation and student development. Those proposals for project implementations that do not require face-to-face attendance will be of particular interest. The proposed solution must be implemented in one or more courses or training units in the official programs of the National Schools or Leadership and Student Training.

The platform will accept proposals from February 28 to May 27, 2022. No proposals will be received by other means, and those with any of the requested fields omitted will not be considered.

Novus supports proposals that apply from $20,000 MXN to $320,000 MXN. This resource may be used to acquire goods (fixed assets) and services per the policies in force at Tecnológico de Monterrey and the operating rules of the Novus Fund organizing committee in conjunction with the corresponding entities of the institution. The resources are allocated in January 2023 and will be active for 18 months until June 2024. The funds may not be used to cover educational expenses or surcharges, nor for the adaptation or construction of physical infrastructure, except projects authorized by the national physical plant areas.

Proposals will be supported for the three academic levels: preparatory (high school), professional (undergraduate), and postgraduate), and transversal projects in two or three of the Leadership and Student Training levels and projects. Proposals related to Continuing Education programs, innovation management, continuous improvement, teacher training, or those whose sole objective is to change physical infrastructure are not considered.

If there are no plans to implement the innovation in a course or a training unit of the institution, then estimate the number of students impacted in the proposal form with the following information:

  • Participation of students by open recruitment. Course name: Recruitment. Course format: Subject. It will be necessary to declare the calendar period of recruitment and selection. Finally, the student profile for recruitment must be shared in the justification (Section 4).
  • Participation of Social Service students. Course name: Service. Course format: Subject. It will be necessary to declare the calendar period of recruitment and selection. Finally, the student profile for recruitment must be shared in the justification (Section 4).

If working with students differs from what is described here, and a course or training unit differs, consult with Novus Coordination.

Thematic lines

Novus will prioritize educational innovation proposals that respond to national and international challenges related to education. An educational innovation involves implementing significant change in the teaching-learning process or leadership formation and student development, resource materials, delivery of the class sessions, or contents or contexts implied in teaching (López and Heredia, 2017). For the 2022 Call, indicate if the proposal is aimed at resolving any of the following challenges:

Technology and digitalization allow our students to acquire or develop technological skills to excel in their professional lives (Alhelou et al., 2021). The Novus initiative seeks proposals that offer digital experiences incorporating remote, collaborative, personalized, immersive, or other elements that positively impact learning in the student community.

Transversal competencies are highly demanded in the work world. There is a significant disparity between the mastery of competencies developed in the university and what Industry expects (Arifin and Ikhfan, 2018). Thus, this thematic line seeks proposals focused on developing transversal competencies or some of its components, with or without educational technology support.

Universities increasingly receive more people who want to prepare. They must have the means to provide timely follow-up to all students to ensure their development (Lockyer et al., 2017). For this reason, Novus seeks to support creating tools that help determine the level of mastery of competencies, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values precisely, effectively, and efficiently.

Tecnológico de Monterrey has stood out internationally in recent years due to its large number of publications about educational innovation. We call on the community to submit proposals seeking financial and methodological support to scale, license, or commercialize an educational and technology-based minimum viable product (MVP) or incorporate educational technology into an existing MVP that seeks to be scaled, licensed, or commercialized.

When registering a proposal in these thematic lines, justify its selection in the appropriate space in the registration form. It is also possible to choose the "None" option if the educational innovation is not oriented to solve the challenges of this Call or it does not have a technology-based MVP.

Finally, we reiterate our commitment as an institution to eliminate violence, harassment, discrimination, and inequality based on gender and identity, so proposals that seek to promote equality and gender non-violence among the institution's students will also be welcome.

Commitments

All proposals that are accepted in this Call assume the following commitments:

  1. Adherence to the Novus operating regulations in force during the project's development.
  2. Sharing the progress and evidence of the project on the platform (project log).
  3. Final evaluation of the project in Escala I at its conclusion.

    1. Academic performance or learning.
    2. Attention, commitment, interest, or motivation.
    3. Development of a transversal (soft) or disciplinary (hard) skill.
    4. Development of a competency.
  5. Develop the project in 18 months.
  6. Use resources efficiently and ethically (search "My commitment to Integrity" in Myspace).
  7. Have the experimentation protocol approved before implementing the project.
  8. Include the following acknowledgements texts in any dissemination of the project and its derivatives:

  1. Proposals soliciting $100,000 MXN to $199,999 MXN:
    1. Measure the impact of the educational innovation on a second variable.
    2. Submit a manuscript to a Scopus or Web of Science indexed conference to share the funded project's results.
  2. Proposals requesting $200,000 MXN or more:
    1. Measure the impact of the educational innovation on a second variable.
    2. Send a manuscript to an indexed journal in the first two quartiles of Scopus or Web of Science to share the funded project's results.

When the project results are available, the Project Manager can request a Mentor from Writing Lab to receive mentoring in the scientific-writing process. Consult the Writing Lab information page for more information about the process and incentives.
